In the last PLCA membership survey we had 54 responses from our membership of roughly 275 at that time, which equates to about a 20% response rate. In the survey world that is pretty good! The commentary is based on the results from those respondents. Here is a summary of the key findings.

Hurry! Register online for the annual Don Thomas Rock Bass Derby (Sat. July 11th)

Hurry up and register, the derby is coming up fast! This year, unfortunately, there will be no gathering at the Paudash Lake Marina. Nonetheless, we will still have a great fishing derby, using a new format. On July 11th, catch and keep as many rock bass as you can, from sun-up to sun-down and post a photo of all your fish to our Facebook page. Prize: gift certificates to the Paudash Lake Marina!

Fishing Regulations Update

Lake trout are often compared to the “canary in the coal mine”; our early warning of oxygen starved, polluted water. I took these concerns to David Flowers, the area Fish Biologist in Minden; Bob Bergman, the head Fish Biologist at the provincial office in Peterborough, and Peter Schleifenbaum at Haliburton Forest where the issue had already been addressed.

Register for the Lake Bass Derby Online!

Everyone loves the annual Don Thomas Memorial Rock Bass Derby! This year youths 2-18 can challenge themselves to catch as many rock bass as possible on Saturday July 6th, from 9am-noon at the Paudash Lake Marina. Participants will receive prizes and a certificate for helping protect Paudash Lake’s game fish. Registration is easier than ever, just complete the online form; it only takes 2 minutes!
